(presenting virtually)
Tension can exist when charities and donors have different expectations for the use of donations. Navigating this tension requires the application of ethical standards and practices to ensure charities maintain their mission and donors have a positive experience. This presentation will explore the ethical challenges that fundraisers and charities face when soliciting gifts, the potential outcomes of failing to maintain ethical standards, case studies of such outcomes from the real world, and specific strategies and best practices that can serve as guideposts and railings to ensure positive outcomes for donors and charities.

SPEAKER BIO
Our speaker, Jason Tripp, is the Executive Director of Gift Planning at Syracuse University and has been advising individuals on financial matters for over 20 years. He has earned numerous certificates and designations from the likes of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, Kaplan University, and is a Fellow in Charitable Estate Giving as well as a Certified Financial Planner®.
His passion for philanthropy is rooted personal experience and his core belief that Good People find joy in helping others. His area of specialty is “Asset-Based Philanthropy” which is a framework to educate donors and fundraisers that success in philanthropic pursuits typically lies outside of a person’s checkbook. You can read more about his theory through his newsletter on LinkedIn titled “Gift Planning Tidbits”. Outside of his work at Syracuse, Jason is a dedicated volunteer and community citizen having been involved at various levels with non-profits such as the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, The United Way, and the Chenango River Theater, a live theater company near his hometown, where he sits on the Board and oversees their fundraising efforts.
