Two issues vex legacy professionals everywhere:
1. Supporters have expressed interest in leaving a bequest for your organization, perhaps even sharing that they definitely plan to do so. Then….radio silence. Did they ever complete their gift?
2. Many bequests are realized from donors (or even non-donors) who never notified you of their gift during their lifetime. Why? How can we encourage donors to share their plans? Are these “unknown” donors different from our known donors in ways that might help shape our messaging and outreach?
In our discussion, we will identify what we as fundraisers can control in the legacy giving process, identify what we can’t, and explore how to apply this learning to better allocate our time and resources.
